Maharashtra Assembly Election

New Delhi: Ajit Pawar, chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), will contest the Maharashtra assembly elections from Baramati, as announced on Wednesday. The NCP is allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena for this election. Voting for all 288 seats is scheduled for November 20, with results on November 23. The Shiv Sena has released its first list of candidates, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde from Kopri-Pachpakhadi. As the election approaches, both the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi are ramping up their campaign efforts.

Opposition’s seat-sharing dilemma

Top leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance convened in Mumbai late Tuesday night, signaling that the seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming assembly elections has been finalized. The MVA, consisting of Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP (SP), faced challenges during discussions, particularly between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress. To resolve the deadlock, senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat met with NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar and subsequently with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray.
