Food Politics: ‘Non-vegetarian food during Navratri’ | PM Modi’s remarks on choice of food infantile, says Congress

Signs of “panic” and reflect a “sick mindset”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on “which leader ate what and in which month” are signs of “panic” and reflect a “sick mindset”, the Congress said on Friday. The Congress criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on leaders’ dietary preferences as “panic-induced” and indicative of a “disturbed mindset.” In response to Modi’s comments during a rally in Udhampur, Jammu, where he mocked Opposition leaders for consuming non-vegetarian food during religiously significant periods like Navratras and Shravan, the Congress highlighted these statements as reflective of a “sick mindset.” Modi suggested that such actions by the Opposition portrayed a “Mughal mindset” disrespecting public sentiments.

‘Sick mindset’

While not directly naming anyone, the Prime Minister’s comments appeared to target Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who shared a video of himself eating fish, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who posted a video learning a mutton recipe from RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the Prime Minister’s actions, describing them as a display of a “sick mindset” and labeling the PM’s constant political maneuvers as immature and tiresome. Ramesh suggested that the Prime Minister’s frequent diversions indicate a sense of panic.
