Gangster-Politician Mukhtar Ansari Dies
Mukhtar Ansari, a former gangster-turned-politician who was in jail in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab since 2005, passed away due to a cardiac arrest after being hospitalized. His name was on a list of 66 gangsters by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
The Banda Medical College (BMC) released a statement indicating that the five-time MLA was admitted on Thursday following complaints of vomiting and losing consciousness at 8:25 pm.
Prior to his death, there were concerns expressed by his family about the possibility of him being harmed in a staged encounter. According to his brother, Mukhtar Ansari had voiced suspicions of being poisoned in jail on multiple occasions, with the latest incident allegedly occurring in March, leading to his deteriorating health. His lawyer had also raised concerns during a court hearing about Ansari being given “slow poison” in jail.
Following Mukhtar Ansari’s passing, security measures have been heightened in various regions. Mukhtar’s eldest son, Abbas Ansari, currently detained in Kasganj jail, will be escorted under police protection to attend his father’s final rites.
